Barely a couple of months since his last drama project on “Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata ~Ending Planner”, Hey! Say! JUMP/NYC’s Chinen Yuri has now been slated to play the lead role in an upcoming manga-adapted drama titled “Sprout”. In case you’re wondering what genre it might be, it’s a Shoujo manga, so yes, it does involve romance.

Such news ended up all over the Japanese newspapers today, reporting on Chii’s solo lead role & the fact that there’ll be on-screen kisses as well (whoever’s the female lead has to prepare herself for some hate coming her way, that’s for sure). But who will Chinen be playing & how’s the plot like?

In the gist, the female lead named Miku is a pretty well-off girl who lives in a huge house & already has a boyfriend (yes, it starts off like this). Her parents then turned the huge house into a boarding house and there she meets 3 boys, namely Tanigawa, Tamiyama & lastly, Narahashi Shouhei. After awhile, Miku finds herself falling in love with Shouhei (who is most likely going to be played by Chinen since he’s the ultimate male lead), even tho she has a boyfriend already. Adding to the problem is that Shouhei happens to be attached himself to a girl named Miyu.

So you see, it’s probably going to be a huge love rectangle. All will be well if Miku just stayed with her boyfriend and Shouhei continues to be with his girlfriend, but then we won’t get any story out of this would we? For me, being a huge fan of Chii’s, I’m both happy (as he’s snagging more dramas under his belt) and kinda jealous at the same time (his first real on-screen kiss!). But did you know, Chinen already had his first kiss back when he acted in the film “Nanako to Nanao”? He actually’d kissed the actress Aoi Yu, but I don’t count it as he was like a total young kid back then.

What I do hope to get out of this “Sprout” drama though, is a brand-new HSJ single. Hopefully something light-hearted and fun because we haven’t really heard too much of that out of JUMP. EDIT: It has already been confirmed that the actress slated to play Chii’s love interest will be Morikawa Aoi. The 17 year-old is a Seventeen magazine model. The rest of the cast for “Sprout” includes Lewis Jesse, Yasui Kentarou, Jinguiji Yuuta, Tanaka Juri, Kikkawa You, Kojima Fujiko and more. It will air starting from 7 July on every Saturday night (or early Sunday morning) between 12:50am to 1:20am JST. NTV has also opened up an official page for the drama, which you can check out HERE.
